Install Massive Ableton 9 - custom folder?
Hi, been away from ableton for ages and currently reinstalling a few bit's on my computer.
In ableton I re-scan for plugins and nothing happens, and theres an option for "Use VST plug in custom folder"
iS this what most people do or not? I'm not sure how to install Massive into Ableton via defaults, it's installed onto the computer so I can access it in stand alone, I thought that ableton might have detected it from this but it hasn't.
I have installed Ableton AFTER Massive though, so I'm wondering if the chain's messed up or something?
Ideally I should just be able to re scan from within ableton, thought I'd ask before uninstalling other things and reinstalling.
cheers

Find out were the vst has been installed. Probably within Program Files in a Natice Instruments directory on your computer.
Then in Live, go into the Preferences and set the vst plug in directory for files/folders to go to that location.
When you rescan, it should be available.

Re: Install Massive Ableton 9 - custom folder?
cheers yur2die4 - I've uninstalled and reinstalled Massive.
I tried using a custom folder - I created one
C:\VstVsti\
I then copy pasted the .dll file into that folder, and then in ableton I selected the ' Use VST Plug-In custom Folder' to on
Then I selected browse, and clicked the folder path that I had made with the .dll files.
I then re-scanned, nothing.
I've also tried restarting ableton, still not coming up though.
cheers dude!
But what If I then install a different VST with a separate location? Then in Live, go into the Preferences and set the vst plug in directory for files/folders to go to that location

I have also tried to do it using the way of browsing to the folder in the NI directory
and
But neither of them worked, or at least nothing happened when I pressed rescan.
Code: Select all
C:\Program Files\Native Instruments\VSTPlugins 64 bit
Code: Select all
C:\Program Files\Native Instruments\VSTPlugins 32 bit

Okay. That brings my next tip into play.
Some vsts are very sensitive about being installed and Then moving or copying them.
What I do, is have a folder like you've mentioned.
Instead of copying the dll, I copy and paste a shortcut To where the dll installed. I have a vst folder full of just shortcuts.
Finally, Live 32 bit only reads 32 bit vsts, Live 64 only does 64.

Ah nice, alias works then Makes sense to do it for all.
Kind of annoyingly it's working at the moment (I can load massive within ableton)
Though I'm not too sure what folder path it's working for. Currently I have it set to the custom one, with a folder in that called Plugins....
I'm going to install Monark now though, so I can test it with that I guess.

OK cool, there's no bridge then..? I think that perhaps I should have installed 32 bit now then knowing that... any suggestions on that? It's been a while since I used thing's, but I remember using Massive on Logic a few years back and there was some hassle with bridges 64 bit versions or something along those lines.... maybe everythings smooth now! Finally, Live 32 bit only reads 32 bit vsts, Live 64 only does 64

OK I spoke too soon - massive is under plug ins but I can't actually load it onto a track
Re: Install Massive Ableton 9 - custom folder?
Installing both for now won't hurt any. There is not a built in bridge, some people sell them, I don't trust anything not built into Live haha. But yeah, I simply made the jump to 64, if I can't use a certain plug in, I don't get overly sentimental about it.

The error message I get when I try to drag and drop massive from the plug in's to a (midi) channel :
Code: Select all
VST "Massive": The VST Plug-In could not be found
any thoughts?
cheers
