I use 4 still. Just got 5 in the last week or so. I'm doing a live show soon and I'm going to use a set I built in 4 on stage. It just seems more stable. Then later in the month I'm doing another show that is a lot more laid back (small venue, free admission, early set) so I'm going to use Live 5 that night.

I'm staying with Live 4 for the forseable future .. at least for the next three months anyway.
Why am I not updating?
Honestly, my key interest in Live 5 would be for the freeze feature, which as far as I can tell, doesn't work very well with multi-timbral plugins, like Battery / Kontakt. So no point in jumping to 5 there.
Plus I'm hanging around waiting patiently for better performance / dual processor support in Live ... I was disgusted recently in a session where Live 4 was hitting 70% and glitching all over the place with just a couple of instances of Battery and a few Elemental Audio plugs... on my 2x 2.3GHz powermac.
I find myself working more in Logic again, where I simply cannot get the performance meter above 30%..
.. as much as I truly love Live as a compositional tool, I'm finding it more restricting as a DAW.
Fix the freeze or give us dual processor support Ableton!

I'm there with you, though I'm only privy to a dual Gig G4, basically it's like I have a single Gig computer with Live. The thing that kills me with that is that I find Live to be great for Composing, and it's a PITA to transfer stuff from logic, but that's the best way to get full CPU use I've found.marky wrote:.. as much as I truly love Live as a compositional tool, I'm finding it more restricting as a DAW.

Im using Live 4 for warping audio. i can do it much faster in ver 4. I dont know why. I can warp manually ten times faster thanfixing ver 5 attempt at autowarping. if Live 5 didnt have PDC I wouldnt have bothered with it. That for me was the deal breaker.
same here actually.. PDC was just about the only thing that I needed (though I do like so of the other new features)... V5 is giving me some grief though, strange things happening all over the place, hopefully things should get sorted within the next couple of updates.. until then im still writing in V4

I couldn't agree more. And it's a shame since Live is the best compositional tool around. Now, I will buy Live 5 no doubt but I hope Abelton will take this buy as a vote of confidence. I will not buy anothoer version of Live in a year or so that has not given us dual processor support. No way.
