What is the best MP3-WAV program

Post by Nophera » Mon Jul 14, 2014 7:18 pm

What software should I use to convert MP3 to WAV. I know I can use Audacity, but I want something that can convert multiple files at once.

Windows?

Free one I have used in the past is CDEX

Designed as a ripper for CDs with tagging support it can also batch convert files both To/From MP3/WAV with quality settings. Nice tool to quickly convert a file and the price is right.

foobar

But why would you want to convert mp3 to wav? You've already lost the audio quality by going down to mp3. Going up to wav is only going to increase the disk requirements with the bigger files with no advantage.

TotalRecorder Pro has a batch mode that I use a lot. It costs money. Normally I would do WAV->MP3. There's not very many good reasons to go the other direction as Live does it for you already and most programs will play MP3. If you were converting to a more esoteric format like OGG then it would make more sense.

LIVE 9.1.7 x64, PUSH w/PXT, APC40, KEYSTATION PRO88, Radium61
Win8.1 Pro, 4820k(4.5GHz)/32GB/840ProSSD/RME Babyface

MP3 can be slower to load in Live. WAV is the native format and requires less work. Otherwise there are a lot of times where Live itself will just render an mp3 to wav over again. In a huge set, that gets ridiculous.

The native format is uncompressed pcm, that may be wav or aif(f).

Compressed audio is decoded to the decoding cache (you set the location and limits in Files/Folder preferences) before it's imported, that uses extra disk space, which can be a lot.

AppGeeker converter can do it.http://www.appgeeker.com

I have been using it for a long time, happy with the results.

Its batch-encoding feature gives you options to convert multiple files at one time.
