Wobbly bass?

Post by DavidStars » Wed Jul 23, 2014 6:32 pm

So I'm working on a track and want to get this wobbly bass effect such as the one in this song

http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=YN-stfOQtWg

Does anyone know how to achieve this? I'm still in the process of learning about oscillators, but I'm guessing that the wobble effect on the bass in the song has to do with oscilattors? Some insight would be greatly appreciated. Still sorta new to this

I'm surprised more people don't oftenly ask this.

The quickest simplest way to do it is explained in this video

Your wobble example is really simple so I don't think you'll have to do much extra to get it like that

a saw wave and a sine wave sub (maybe) routed through a high pass filter whose cutoff is modulated by a variable speed lfo

operator can make this easily

or practically any plugin synth out there

Side note: I just searched 'wobble' in Live and it gave some presets, so there should already be some available.

Low pass filter though, right?

I was assuming H knew I was being sarcastic but it was a good lead-in to the dubstep-death

and actually I think that example bass is LFO'ing the amp instead of the filter, but I dunno cuz I listened to it from my ipod speaker while on the toilet

Skrillex doesn't use much of the wobble bass - wobble is more old school - the Brostep gang from the US use more of the aggressive single shot screeching/growling sounds.

LFO-> filter/amp/fm modulate source/target/pitch - you can get wobble sounds from any of these

let's not forget that people have been using wobble bass/synth sounds since electronic synths were first designed - it's not just for dubstep - you can use it anywhere
