Which book(s) would you like to see turned into a movie?

Whenever I really get into a book, I'll start imagining the characters as various actors, in order to really visualise the book in my head - usually, if the author is good, this happens almost entirely unconsciously, and I'll suddenly know how the character looks. And I often find myself thinking "wow, this looks really cool - I'd love to see it adapted as a film".

So, I've just read "Time" by Stephen Baxter - a really spectacular science fiction novel that I bought more than ten years ago, but never got around to reading until now, and it would be fantastic seeing this at the cinema, if done properly. I've also always felt that "At the Mountains of Madness" by Lovecraft would be absolutely insane.

So what are your pet yet-to-be-filmed books?

A proper adaptation of The Stand.

Perry Rhodan:
This is a series of German pulp science fiction books that are as good from the stories and characters as any Star Wars idiocy. There are literaly 100s of books in the series. Reading them always made me wish for them to get the Hollywood popcorn movie with awesome special effects treatment! Just please leave Jeff Goldblum out of it, he will ruin it
A well made (think HBO or Netflix), long TV series would also be fine.

Consider Phlebas is a good place to start.

Excession was very good too.

Also, I don't know if any of his non sci-fi stuff that has been made into film. Can't see why not?

Stands alongside Straub's Ghost Story as one of the finest novels of horror ever written.

I Am Legend

Also done RIGHT for a change. The first version 'Last Man On Earth' made in 1964 is actually the most faithful to the book, & if it had not included the voice-over narration at the beginning would have been nicely grim. That said, I do love The Omega Man!

Iron John

Now this is a challenge to adapt for a film! But Bly is still alive & it could include him.

Anything by H.P. Lovecraft that was genuinely true to Lovecraft!
With all the films based on Lovecraft it is a challenge to find more than a very few that contain the spirit of Lovecraft. A real pity.

And yes, Stephen King's The Stand done right would be welcome.
