Live 9 Browser: can't add folders - SOLVED
I am trying to add folders to my User Library
So I click on add folder, go to the folder I want to add, press 'Open'
...
and nothing happens.
WotamIdoingwrong?
[edit - later] the folder I wanted to add was inside the Live 8 library, and Add Places does not work within the Live 8 library.

Re: Live 9 Browser: can't add folders
I am trying to do this. But I can't add folders to places. I have read the manual, and your tutorial, but it still won't work. I must be missing something basic"Add Folder" appears at the bottom of Places. This is for adding folders to Places.

Re: Live 9 Browser: can't add folders
Here's my problem. When I add the user folder (a reference to another location from my external samples hard drive) it is taking what seems like days to 'scan' all the files. This would be fine, but when I look at my internal hard drive stats I can see storage being chewed up on my internal - like it's copying files or parts of files onto my local disk - it should NOT be doing this. I'm just trying to look at all of those samples and files within lives browser, not copy them to the library. Help please?
Re: Live 9 Browser: can't add folders
it scans and creates and index file, that's why it's writing too.

Re: Live 9 Browser: can't add folders
Okay, that's what I figured. Do we know where it stores the index file? My concern is that I have closed out the program in the middle of the scan and then foolishly went back and deleted my user folder from the sidebar. I want to make sure there aren't any partial index's that will cause an issue when I sit down and try this process again.
Also, will Live know when changes are made to the drive / folder? New files added or things moved to different files or are we to be very careful about shifting things around on our storage drives?
Thanks everyone

Re: Live 9 Browser: can't add folders
I've had this problem as well. I have some kits that i've got like the "Bricksquad Kit" "Apashe Kit" etc. I made the mistake of moving them from my desktop all into 1 folder on my desktop. Not sure if you did this as well, if so, just take all those folders and put them back onto your desktop. Don't keep them all in one folder. Once I took them out and put them back onto my desktop my problem was resolved.
Hope this can help you any!

Re: Live 9 Browser: can't add folders
I don't that should be making a difference. As long as it is not inside the library.
In my case, I had made the mistake of putting my Samples folder inside the Live 8 library, which is write only, and Add User Places refuses to work on folders that are already inside the Live 8 or Live 9 library. Other than that, you can put them all wherever it makes sense for you to do so.

Re: Live 9 Browser: can't add folders - SOLVED
Well, I'm able to run Ableton smoothly in OSX 10.10 dev preview 5. My VST's seem to work properly and I have no issues with crashes and such. The only annoying thing at this point is that there's no way to browse through sample folders and such using Ableton's file browser.
Anyone has found a work around for this?
Sorry, commented on the wrong topic.. viewtopic.php?f=1&t=204505&p=1616563#p1616563

Re: Live 9 Browser: can't add folders - SOLVED
Same issue regarding missing files within folders. It seems that if you move files ie-a sample pack from one place to another Live does not recognize them even when I add a new folder with sample packs.. Its almost like it's stuck back in time to when I moved them. Even when it shows my sample packs-they are empty. This really makes workflow much slower bc i have to copy and paste my files from folders outside of live itself. Any advice would be appreciated-its such a minor issue but really makes working more tedious.

I figured out a work around... But if you have a huge library of sounds it's gonna take some time!
Add each individual folder into your places directory.. Right click on the folders and hit show in explorer. It will populate and once populated will show up when you re-add the consolidated folder.
Like I said before, time consuming and TEDIOUS. Be prepared.. But it works for me.
Any updates to this issue please share!
Thanks and happy producing.
