A soundcard with no issues at all ?
Hello, after a few weeks trying to solve glitch problems with my motu 828x in thunderbolt, i am considering giving it up and buying another soundcard.
Anyone with a soundcard (FW or TB) with 10 analog outs and MIDI, 2 Instr. inputs working PERFECTLY on a macbook Pro SSD, OSX 10.9.4 and Live 9.1.4 ?
i am considering Presonus Firestudio (my FP10 was really stable in the past), Saffire Pro orTC Electonic Konnect 48.
thanks

10 outs ? Which one ?
my RME UCX is just great, but 6 outs.

Also,
is using a FW/TB adaptor a problem ? (apart from losing it and notice it when your setting up on stage ?...)

What i can tell using my RME UCX with an adaptor :
it works perfectly when it works. But it often stops working after the computer sleep mode (i have to switch off and on the card), and it produces some glitchy sounds at computer startup.

the UFX has 12 analog outs, however 4 of those are the two headphone outputs...chapelier fou wrote:10 outs ? Which one ?

as for "no issues at all" i dunno if such a beast exists. everything in the tech world seems to be getting more and more complex and fragile...
Re: A soundcard with no issues at all ?
I don't have those specs. My saffire 14 works on my specs really well and it's the same driver as the one you are looking at.
BUT, the reason I replied, is there not a way to get the RME to have more outputs? (spdif/opical?)

Re: A soundcard with no issues at all ?
maybe you can just get a cheap used multiface II and hook them together via spdif/adat ?

you could but when touring the less separate bits to cart around and interconnect and power and break the better...

Re: A soundcard with no issues at all ?
i'd rather not just extend my RME's outputs with spdif or whatever...i'd prefer a clean, one block soundcard with 10 outs.
Does anyone if the mains on the presonus firedtudio project can be individual outs ?
As for the phones out of the RME's, i don't really know what to think of that...

the headphone outputs on most RME interfaces can be used as extra (unbalanced) line outs with splitter cables.chapelier fou wrote: As for the phones out of the RME's, i don't really know what to think of that...

yeah i am aware of that, but according to the specs, it's not the same impedance, etc... And, i like clean, pre-patched racks for live use. But this is something i could consider.

I have a UAD Apollo and it has been very stable for me. It has a Firewire and Thunderbolt connection.
The upsides (built-in plug-ins, great preamp emulations, lots of connections and expandability (in terms of plug-ins and I/O), nice build quality (volume control with mute, two headphone outputs)).
The downsides (no midi I/O, pricey, relatively high latency for a firewire connection about 14 ms roundtrip at 128 samples, using Thunderbolt my roundtrip comes in at approx 9 ms at 128 samples. On the fair side the latency feels alot lower when playing midi. I think most of the latency is to get the input monitoring of the plug-ins to work properly).
