Live 9 crashes when importing video
Live 9 crashes when importing video
Live (currently using 9.0.4)is always crashing when importing videos in projects that I've already been working on.
If I start a new project and import the video it works just fine.
Does anybody else have this problem?
I'm on Windows 7 x64 with 16gb RAM and running Live in 64bit.

Re: Live 9 crashes when importing video
Did you ever find a solution to your problem? I'm on live 9.1.5 - the latest version currently, Windows 7 X64 with 12GB RAM.
I'm getting the exact same issue. Putting aside the obscure messages I originally got when trying to import video (extremely unhelpful 'corrupt video or no license', to paraphrase) I eventually found an online reference with links to third party codecs which had not been required for Live 8, but are apparently required for Live 9. After installing the codecs and 'splitter' program, my existing live session not only crashes when importing video, but after crashing, Live will not load again until a hard restart of the computer has been done (any attempts to terminate the live 9 process from the Task Manager are ignored, and a soft restart is also unsuccessful, which is pretty serious).
Like yourself, creating a new session from scratch seems to work fine.

Re: Live 9 crashes when importing video
I would guess Ableton would first recommend to re-install Quicktime.
If this does not help you should contact support, maybe with some
crash logs...

Re: Live 9 crashes when importing video
Thanks - I don't think they would though, I'm running the 64 bit version of Live in Windows, which doesn't or can't use QuickTime:

I will contact support, I was just wondering if the original poster had resolved this problem or found out what the cause was; I really don't want to have to recreate the session from scratch. Not a good look.

Re: Live 9 crashes when importing video
ah, ok.
didn't know about the 64 bit version.
thought ALL video playback in Live relies on Quicktime...
good luck, post back when you found a solution.

Re: Live 9 crashes when importing video
Thanks - I've contacted Ableton support now and I'll be sure to keep this post updated with the result.
Re: Live 9 crashes when importing video
I contacted Ableton support back in april, and they replied to me to use the 32 bits version. Some video can't be exported, some can. I was too busy back then to go through the procedure to reproduce the crash, so I never answered their demand.
I thought I was the only one with video issues!
I now have to use other software to do any video related work.
Very frustrating!

Re: Live 9 crashes when importing video
Thanks for the heads up. Hmm - maybe a year ago that would have been an option, but I don't think even half of what I use supports the dark ages of 32-bit anymore. In any case I'd be reluctant to do something that drastic without any scientific basis.
I have been able to narrow the problem down in the meantime, and it seems to be in relation to Max for Live. Newly created 'blank' live sessions import video no problem, as did the session I originally had the problem with, once I'd deleted all the midi and audio tracks and devices from it. The moment I then tried to add the MFL granulator II instrument back into a session which had the video...instant crash. Take the video out of the session and I could add granulator II no problem, but then try to add the video back, and instant crash again. Can't have both in the same session.
I need to do some more testing to see whether adding any MFL device causes the problem, or just some of them. I'm also going to try uninstalling/reinstalling MFL to see if this helps.
Will post the results
