M4L plugins are fading in and out
Does anyone know what's going on? I installed the trial version of Max 7.0.1 recently and it started making the audio periodically fade out on all open M4L plugins. As soon as I turn them off it plays normally. It's doing the same audio fadeout that demo VSTs use on their demo plugins. How do I get rid of it, it was never like this?

I don't think the Live license covers Max 7 yet. It has been suggested that it might, but i haven't seen that verified. You have a license for Max 7?Jeffromusic wrote:Does anyone know what's going on? No I don't, It should work with the trial/runtime version. Because I don't have a license for Max 6 either.Stromkraft wrote:I don't think the Live license covers Max 7 yet. It's because you've reached the trial period.
Informations given by Ableton and Cycling are a little bit confusing, but to sum it up:
If you don't own a Max 7 license you won't be able to deal with that. You can demo it, that's it. It was the same between Live 8/Max5 and Live 9/Max6.
Non-owner of a Max6 license had to wait until Live9 to use it.
So for the moment, just use Max 6 (or buy Max7 - there's a new monthly subscription if you prefer).

Re: M4L plugins are fading in and out
Sorry about the confusion. We're working on ways to better communicate demo period status to maxforlive users. If you are a Live 9 Suite user who installed the Max 7 demo, and have reached the end of the 30 day trial period, you have two options:
1) Revert Live 9 Suite back to the Max 6 installation: go to preferences, click the File / Folder tab and click the Max Application browse button. Navigate back to the Max 6 folder. If you've happened to delete Max 6, you can download it here: https://cycling74.com/downloads/older/ Now everything is back to normal. However, be aware that devices that require Max 7 technology (retune~ etc) will still require Max 7 to operate.
2) Crossgrade to Max 7. In addition to bringing all of Max 7's new features to the Live 9 environment, you also get the full version of Max (build standalone applications, create and mix multichannel audio, transcend MIDI and audio I/O limitations) – all for the price of an intonation correction plug in. Also, please note we have a subscription option available for only $10/month.

Hmm, Matthew (stretta?) I was under the impression that the new scheme with Max 7 was that the demo essentially was the Runtime and that patches could be run indefinitely but not edited, just like the old Runtime app worked.
Is that not how it works or just not how it works for M4L devices?

There has never been a free runtime. Once you are done with your Max 7 demo there will be restrictions unless you own a full Max 7 license or Ableton updates the MFL editor.

Thanks Andrew.pukunui wrote:There has never been a free runtime. Once you are done with your Max 7 demo there will be restrictions unless you own a full Max 7 license or Ableton updates the MFL editor.

But didn't the runtime still run whether someone had a Max license on the computer or not?
My understanding was that the Runtime existed so that computers at venues and institutions that didn't have Max licenses could still run pieces when a composer came to perform them. And I could totally be imagining it but I could swear that there used to be links to just download the Runtime??
(This is all just for my own curiosity, I've never used the Runtime and have been a full license holder since Max 4)
EDIT: It occurs to me that maybe you're meaning to say "there has never been a free Max For Live runtime." Is that right?

Yep - ah, I see what you're saying.
There is no free MFL runtime!
The Max runtime is now the full app running unauthed. It will load patchers and projects, and you can edit them, just not save.
Cheers
