meaning in life

Do you think that there is any meaning in life, that life is meaningful -or that life is generally meaningless.

Please state where you are from also.


I'm from San Francisco CA and I'm bordering between life is inherently meaningless to life is incredibly inundated with a meaningful existence.

It's easy to say life has no meaning and follow living to suit accordingly. I think that while words may sometimes prove to be meaningless, logic is inherently meaningful and gives succinct life to words.

Statements like : "Yellow artichoke forward wind bag." have no meaning and therefore derive no purpose to existence or life.

BUT statements like : "In the green meadow within a shadow lurks a figure." Has some sort of meaning in the arrangement of the sentence.

Poetry might inherently be meaningless, while statements like axioms prove to hold meaning within a geometric framework of logic.

Poetry might fit in axiometric framework.

Life is difficult to decode.

When a woman high on bath salts pisses on a $30 million dollar painting in a museum of art in denver, are you supposed to be effected in some way as to this being a meaningful event?

In part you have to believe in "the logical structure of the world" in that if anything has meaning in life then everything has meaning in life. I think if in a whole you negate the meaning of life, then nothing can have meaning obviously. While if you choose to agree that some event holds meaning while others do not it must be that you do not understand the meaning of the event in life. that all life has meaning within a logical structure that represents the world from the smallest micro-structure to the largest macro-structure.

While I do not recognize a woman high on bath salts pissing on a painting in denver as holding any meaning that does not disclose the fact that within some structure of logic, in the viewing of this event (as news, albeit two year old news) holds some rational key, some element of meaning that I may or may not reckon to understand at this point.

And if i were to share this story with someone, the meaning would be different, though the logic should be same.

This I tend to believe.

What are you thinking, just because we are affected in some way does that lend to the belief that we are affected by meaning and therefore there is meaning in life?

No you just spelled affected wrong.

No I meant effected, like if a train crashes you are effected you have to get out of the ruin.

affected is like emotionally, I didn't mean that at the time but i guess you could interpret it that way too.

No, in your first example with the train you would still use the adjective "affected."

The word "effect" would only be used with the past tense suffix "-ed" when used as a verb as in the sentence "The forum poster effected change by introducing philosophical discussions."

In general?! Not really. What hairless ape 6.000 000 001 does during his short lifetime on planet x (out of possibly 10e10000000000... planets). Changes nothing of any significance.

It seems to me that meaning is something you make. You give meaning to things, including your life.

It's difficult to grant anything with meaning though.

you can't judge life based on that perspective.

if you, do you end up with no bathrooms, trouble parking, gridlock, over priced rent, and an inflated sense of ego all while telling yourself that the city is so awesome when, in fact, it's really not.

Well if it makes a difference, I'm from outside the city but I do go to school in the city. And I go by train (hence the effect of the train crash in the previous post).
I can't help but think that people from Mexico might see the 'meaning in life' perspective different than people from San Francisco, or any given city in the world.

Also the thought that there was meaning and life and that there will be meaning in life are two thoughts. Life was inherently meaningful when I was younger, maybe because I was more ignorant, but as I became older life lost meaning. I am much more cynical now.
