Could someone potentially hack into your project files?

Post by tastypants » Wed Feb 18, 2015 3:55 am

I have been using some websites to download stems off of, and for some reason I grew a concern for someone getting into my project files.

I'm not sure on how this would happen, but is it possible for someone to hack into my ableton and grab my projects?

They could steal your laptop, open it up, turn it on, connect a hard drive, launch Live, and then drag clips directly from your Live project to the external hard drive.

Yes, it's a fact of life. I keep my Live sessions locked up tight... and yet, they still get hacked into somehow...

my DAW is a strictly OFFLINE-Machine and it would take some action before getting
internet for it (activating hardwarecomponents and drivers) - and because i am often lazy - it stays that way until Waves-Updater
or some other stressfull authorisation thing concuss me to go for few seconds online with it...

People will always be trying to hack your project files. The best defense is a good disguise.

What I do is I hack into peoples machines after they have an amazing stoned late night jam. I carefully turn all their genius hard beatz into lumpen uninspired blerping. This is why all your songs sound so damn shitty the next day. My leet hacking skillz.

I was actually just joking around about that. Although my music does end up on sharing sites / servers all the time once I post my tracks online, I never had an actual project stolen. But I actually do the same thing as you with my production tower - it is always offline and streamlined specifically for music making.

I was also thinking who in the world would want to hack into a project file. But then again, who in the world would want to post 5000 Volvo or transvestite messages on the Ableton Forums.

Totally! Imagine my surprise when I suddenly heard it play on the radio weeks before my release. Hence my offline work ethic these days. I even wrap my DAW tower in tinfoil...
