RME Multiface II cardbus into pci slot anyone?

Post by filter_7 » Sat Mar 14, 2015 10:19 pm

I'm in the find-the-good-interface phase, and I looked at the Multiface II that seems very good.

I thought would be a 'smart' solution to buy the cardbus version, (if I'll buy a laptop in the future) but in the meantime using it in the pci slot of the pc using an adapter like this:
http://www.amazon.com/PCI-to-PCMCIA-Car ... B000YQQMW0

Anyone already did it? Is the converter reliable or is a cheap mess vs a very good interface?

Tried it with this one - http://uk.startech.com/Cards-Adapters/S ... r~PEX2ECDP

Although this is pcie (not pci)

On Windows RME multiface ii worked fine, apart from one thing - it wouldnt recognise the card on startup. It was necessary to unplug the card and replug it in on every reboot. Apart from that it worked flawlessly.

Not sure how/whether it can work on a mac.

Cheers

Hi,

Im using the RME Multiface I since 10 years. The first 3 years with a notebook via cardbus. Since 7 years in my desktop with this PCMCIA to PCI Adapter and there is no different then before. You can buy the expensive solution from RME or use the cheap solution, it doesn't matter.

I bought this one for 10,-€ (Ebay Germany) and it is perfect, it's still working without problems.
RME Multiface cardbus is the best audio interface, I ever had, I had so much problems with interfaces like Edirol or M-Audio, crashes live e.g. and after two years you'll got no longer driver support. RME publishes new drivers two times a year for lifetime

Thanks, however this is strange; maybe is the adapter's "imperfection".

Could you also tell me if the Multiface can be used as a standalone mixer?

usb 3.0 / Cardbus adapter would interest me.
my solid rocking multiface 2 want to be connected to future laptops
and they are already rare with PCMCIA.

Does PCs have cardbus these days? Macs doesn't and the Toshiba I'm writing this on doesn't have one either.

yes

connecting a drmcmpter to the inputs
will pass the signal to the pa, even
when live is not running.

its done via total mix which is connected in this picture with a babyface and you can midimap
Image

its pretty much the same with a multiface
but you will not have the eq`s and insert fx

Could you explain this better?

In this case you're saying that the mixer is analog like, without digital eq and fx, right?

The totalmix software should be identical for all RME that have it, if I'm not wrong.

Another question that confuses me...

Do you know what is the difference between these 2 RME cardbus types:

there are PCMCIA Type 1 with 54 Pins and the Type 2 with 34(?) pins, further there
are for PCI different revisions on the market, older ones and newer ones.
http://shop.musicnetwork.ch/RME-Firewir ... sion-1-05m

you can relplace drmcmptr with any input, it will work for mixing and playback
as long your computer is running and multiface is connected and installed.

"The ExpressCard standard specifies two form factors, ExpressCard/34 (34 mm wide) and ExpressCard/54 (54 mm width ..."

but what you saved with your choice you will repay when you looking for a new laptop with 32 GB RAM, I7 and Expresscard.
they vanish and because of this it would be more intresting, to get an adapter for this dinosaurs to usb.3.0.

Thanks for the clarification, but there's something strange...
According to that site:
http://archive.kaskus.co.id/thread/1587 ... cmcia-card

the 2 RME cards in my links should be both with 54 pin, for they're called both CARDBUS and not EXPRESS CARD. And they are different. Maybe this regards only the cable connection?

I'm new to laptops, so if I understand well, you're saying that Cardbus are dinosaurs and Express cards are in the businness, right?

Maybe you already know, but at the moment there are pcmcia to usb 2 adaptors that worth a try:
