Live 9 no longer working under Windows 10 (Build 9860)
There doesn't seem to be much talk of Windows 10 here, so I figured I should chime in.
The most recent Windows 10 Technical Preview update appears to break Live 9 (which previously had been working perfectly).
Live freezes at "Initializing MIDI inputs and outputs". Clicking it will offer a crash and drop memory usage from ~53mb to 0.3mb.
This update did not seem to affect ASIO4ALL or any NI standalone.
Running Live in compatibility mode (8 and 7) still freezes, but does not offer to crash when clicked.

I'm quite sure the Abelton dev team have a few installs of the Win10 preview, and either MS or Ableton will address whatever broke by the time Win10 actually hits release in >12 months from now. Until then I'd stay far far away from it, if you actually want to make music on a computer!

With my system running win 7 pro 64 bit without a hiccup I would never dare to upgrade OS -but that's probably just me

I can't believe Ableton isn't preconceiving every change in a beta OS and adapting their software to work with it. They need to hire more telepaths and time-travelers!link2x wrote:There doesn't seem to be much talk of Windows 10 here, so I figured I should chime in.

+10 A recap from an excellent orchestration course I just watched:login wrote:Why people try beta OS and is surprised things doesn't work?
- Do you know musically what you want to say?
- Where does music technology fit in to achieve it?
That's it. Learning or not learning Windows 10 or horseback riding or tapestry waving to express the music in you isn't even considered, let alone deemed necessary.

Unfortunately when you are a cross platform developer you also have to keep up with the Apple side. Most of the betas are geared toward Yosimite. Image Line is testing FL Studio in W10. I wouldn't doubt Cakewalk is testing Sonar either. Life is easier working on only one OS.antarktika wrote:I can't believe Ableton isn't preconceiving every change in a beta OS and adapting their software to work with it. I know this is a bit late; but in case anyone else is having issues, it may have something to do with WOW64.
So, basically, if you are running a 32bit version of Live on a 64bit installation of Windows, something appears to go wrong during initialisation.
I uninstalled my 32bit version of Live and installed the 64bit version, and it now works fine.
I am currently running build 9926 (latest as of today), but had the same issue with previous build.
Using Live 9 Lite (Launchpad Edition)

Having no luck with either 32 or 64 bit versions of Ableton 9 Suite on Windows 10 Technical Preview (9926). Hangs on initialization.
Re: Live 9 no longer working under Windows 10 (Build 9860)
I have the same problem here with the 64bit version.
Did you do anything but remove the 32 bit version.
Maybe a fix could be to install 32bit, uninstall and the install 64 bit.

I haven't experienced any problems with Live 9 and the Windows 10 Technical Preview so far.
Currently using Live 9.1.7 64 Bit and Windows 10 Pro Technical Preview Build 10041 (Started with Build 9879)

I am now on build 10130 with a clean install, and I still have lockup at different times during initialisation.
On my previous install I had both the RTM and the beta og Live and when I started one and then the other, it would start, but with no interface support.
Windows 10 is a fantastic OS, and it would be great to get support for Live. At least then W10 goes GA on July 29th.
