SERIOUS ABLETON DELAY

Post by Alexlg0520 » Thu Mar 26, 2015 3:45 pm

Hello everyone. I'm not really having a good time right now :( .

I'm very poor, and that's ok. I do everything I can to work with what I have.

My macbook is a couple years old now, and i've kept it in pretty good condition. It works fine for most things.

But in Ableton, there's a horrible delay. If i play a track in the arrangement or clip view, what's playing on my screen will be about a quarter to half second ahead of the audio out put.

For example: It'll say it's playing (2.00.2), but i'm actually hearing (2.00.00)

THIS MAKES IT SO HARD TO WORK.

Two common problems:

1) Writing Midi notes in the completely wrong places because of the visual / audio differences. This is easier to manage with adaptation.

2) Lining up audio clips correctly to a beat. SO HARD. Border line impossible, especially if i'm importing an accapella with no clear initial transient.

I'm not sure how or if this is fixable. This has nothing to do with my version of live. I've tried multiple different ones. And my latency isn't even higher than 5% on this particular track, so it's not that.

Any ideas?

Please ask any questions you need to clarify.

And I thank anyone who takes time out of their day to try and help in advance. Honestly, I really appreciate it.

sounds like your buffer is set very high
Live>Preferences>Audio
your buffer size is prolly something like 2048 samples
try reducing it to 512

What sound card or what drivers are you using to play the audio? In the Audio Preferences in Live what audio interface/driver do you have selected? What is the latency in/out indicated below the buffer settings? Before you play with the buffer, you need to be using the fastest interface/driver available to you.

Maybe this helps. Windows needs special settings for audio applications:

If you use an external audio-device, contact the manufacturer. MAybe they can help you!

Good luck!

Driver: CoreAudio
Input: Built-in Input (2 in, 0 out)
Output: Built-in Output (0 in, 2 out)

Sample Rate: 44100

Buffer: 512
Input Latency: 12.2 ms
Output Latency: 17 ms
Overal: 29.1

When I lower it to 128, it doesn't really make a difference :*(

Any other possible options?

Thank you guys so much for all your help!

Do you have any vst's loaded?

Try a fresh set, and delete all vsts.

OMG!!! OMG!!! OMG!!!

YOU HAVE NO IDEA HOW HAPPY YOU JUST MADE ME!!!

I've literally had this problem for over 4 months now, and i've just adapted to it the best I can...

BUT YOU ARE A GENIUS!

I have an instance of Izotope Ozone 5 that is on my master track in my default set. It's off on startup, but apparently it was still causing some delay. When I remove it from the master channel, the problems fixed!!!

THANK YOU SOOOOOOOOO MUCH!

Strength in numbers. Community. This makes me want to help others.

I thank you one last time!

Yea for future reference, muting plugins will still cause delay in Ableton. Also some plugins will have more delay on others. Good to know you figured out your issue. Now go make some music! 8)
