Started using a DAW called Multitrackstudio. Then I bought my first external audio interface: M-Audio Quattro. I got it bundled with Live1 I think. Used L1 for a few years, then bought L4 and have been stuck since.

I tried out Live 2 and 3 over the course of a year or so and then bought it when they added MIDI with Live 4. So since 2004 I guess.

Since version 4, so 2004.
I might have had a cracked version before hand but it was not long before I handed over the money for the box set. Money well spent

Was using 3 because I was messing around with laptop performance, but I mainly used Sonar so I didn't upgrade to 4 or 5. Had an illegal version of 6 to play around with, started sequencing in it because transferring songs from Sonar to Ableton was a PITA, bought 7 suite, have used it ever since. Stopped using Sonar about the same time (must have been Sonar v8).
One of the things I really appreciate about Ableton is the clean uncluttered interface, and I think spending years working with the pre-X1 versions of Sonar, which in retrospect seem to me to be incredibly cluttered, has a lot to do with that. Whenever anyone mentions wanting to put in a Logic style toolbar I get twitchy just thinking about it.

checked out v3 then bought v4. Like the GUI and the workflow still.

Since version 6. I got Live Lite bundled with my Axiom 61, and intended to rewire to Reason, which didn't have audio tracks at the time. I liked it really quickly, though, and upgraded to the full version. I think I went Suite on version 8.
Before Live, I went this route: ReBirth, ReBirth+AudioMulch, DreamStation, Reason.

Since v3. I have to admit, I made some of my best -- and most quickly completed -- tunes with that version.

Version five which i split the cost with a mate and shared the unlocks... i kept the free MIDI controller that came with it, god knows where that is now. Think i was inspired by Moldover to take it apart...
