Apple trying to kill free on-demand music streaming services

Post by beats me » Wed May 06, 2015 2:11 pm

Rumor has it Apple is trying to pressure the music industry into not allowing services like Spotify to have a free ad supported version of their service. Basically, if you want to have on demand access to music you don’t "own" then you are going to have to pay something for it.

The amount of self-entitled outrage over this is astonishing, even though it’s just a rumor. Tons of people not willing to pay one cent for this type service, and there is no parallel. You can get radio and (some) TV for free but you don’t get to view/listen to exactly what you want when you want. You are slave to the schedule of the airwaves. There are free movie services but their catalog is extremely limited.

Some people are just pissed Apple is behind the rumored move and that’s the only aspect they care about.

:? :x

:)

It’s also rumored that Apple is offering to pay labels licensing fees to not allow their music on YouTube. How do you feel about that? 8O

Of course the argument for these type services is that they help people discover other artists, but if they aren’t willing to buy the music of the artists they do know I fail to see how they are suddenly going to pay for the ones they just discovered.

That is mostly a nonsense excuse. What it actually does is get people more and more used to music being a free thing.

Which in a socialist society btw. I, as a musician would have no issue with. But as it stands a.) the price people pay for something tells you how much they value that something and b.) well, I gotta pay rent and eat too :x

I also  at the people saying this is just going to drive people back to piracy. Really? Spend $10 a month to have instant access to all the music in the world or spend all the time, file management, and storage space to try and replicate that through piracy.

and that's not even mentioning that I see no reason to care if people pay 10 dollars a month to someone who got a not totally shit deal with the majors (the only people who see anything but pennies per month from these services).

That someone will with 99+% probability never be you.

Everybody else is fooling themselves to think of it as advertisement, since it's advertisement for a product they will never sell, since to the consumer it's in most regards identical to said "advertisement" .

I won’t argue about how much or little artists are making from these services. I’m more peeved by people who think music is worth absolute zero to them while also getting outraged when their daily free listening is getting threatened. You can’t have it both ways. If it’s really worthless then you should have no problem with it being gone.

OP - this issue is nothing compared to Apple's shocking watermarking of iTunes purchased music with buyers' personal information and you damn well know it.

Selling recorded music as a career path for musicians is a thing of the past- a flash in the pan of music history.

For now we have to fall back on the old ways to earn a crust from music, e.g. teaching, public performance, creating music on commission for wealthy sponsors, or show business, dance groups, theater, cinema, TV, etc.

That fits! I mean the world is reverting back to Feudalism anyways. (Or oligarchic rule, same thing really)
The artist as the royal jester :x

Neither did you talk about anything relevant to this thread
You just attacked beats for something he DIDN'T say, like it's his responsibility to mention every pet issue you may care about.
How about you make your own thread, if you don't want to talk about the topic in the OP, but something totally unrelated :x
