iMac 2.9 GHz vs 3.4 GHz -- what difference?
iMac 2.9 GHz vs 3.4 GHz -- what difference?
I've been using a 3.4 GHz iMac for Live. My spouse is going to take it over, and because I don't feel the need for a 27 in. monitor, I was planning to go to 21.5 in screen. Then I found out that the 21.5 in iMacs have a max. processor speed of 2.9 GHz.
I wonder if the difference in processor speed would make any noticeable difference in Live performance.
Anyone have feedback on this?
Thanks.
Orson

Are they both running a quad core i7?
if so, there'd be minimal difference, but if they are NOT running the same family of cpu, i5 vs i7 etc, then you may see a significant
difference.

Re: iMac 2.9 GHz vs 3.4 GHz -- what difference?
If the 3.4 Ghz iMac is the iMac i7 3.4 27" (2012) and the latter 2.9 Ghz iMac is the iMac i5 2.9 21.5" (2013), then these are 2 different processor families. The older with I7-3770 is likely to be faster still and in Geekbench 3 Multicore 64 it has about a 27% better score than the I5-4570S.orsonk wrote:I've been using a 3.4 GHz iMac for Live. However, you're in luck as this 21.5" model should be able to order with a 3.1 GHz Core I7-4770S, which is somewhat faster than the older i7 model. Ask Apple.

The difference is 500MHz

That's an insufficient and even ignorant analysis. Even if you had written Ghz.Airyck wrote:The difference is 500MHz

though... 1000MHz = 1GHz so 3.4GHz - 2.9GHz = 500MHz or 0.5GHz
