I am using a Moog Sub37 in Live 9 via Midi. Therefore I disabled the controller on the Sub37 itself and have it only send and reveive midi messages from Live – Recording controller events for turning the knobs and notes works great so far.
There's one question left. When recording the audio from the Sub37 I still need to make sure to switch to the right bank and preset on the Sub37 itself to get the right sound being played.
Can this switch also be automated via some sort of controller event in Live?

Have you tried the program change field in Lives Midi clips?

Haha. Yes, perfect. That was exactly what I was looking for. I wasn't aware of this. ThanksTomViolenz wrote:Have you tried the program change field in Lives Midi clips?

Re: Changing the bank/preset on Sub37 via midi from Live
However, keep in mind that the bank and program numbers in Ableton don't match bank and program numbers on the Sub37. Ableton assumes each bank contains 128 programs, while in the Sub37, each bank contains only 16 programs. That means that bank 1, pgm 1 - 16 in Ableton correspond to bank 1, pgm 1 - 16 in the Sub 37, but then bank 1 pgm 17 in Ableton gets you bank 2, pgm 1 in the Sub37. So basically, Ableton bank 1 covers Sub37 banks 1 - 8, and Ableton bank 2 covers Sub37 banks 9 - 16. (The "Sub" field in Ableton is ignored on the Sub37.)

I am trying to do (sort of) the same on a Line 6 KB37, its presets are not changed on the keyboard itself but in a Audio-MIDI Control Panel which isn't practical on the fly.TomViolenz wrote:Have you tried the program change field in Lives Midi clips?
Ie. change the assignment of KB37 buttons and rotators, for example to map the 4 rotators to volume for track 1-4 in preset 1, 5-8 in preset 2, etc., and utilize this rather nice audio+MIDI box even better.
Have asked on Line 6 forum as well, awaiting mod approval on that post. Line 6 provide MIDI documentation for various amp and fx settings (MIDI Continuous Controller Reference (pdf)) but so far I haven't found something similar for the controller surface.

Sorted, (with the excellent ClyphX controller surface
