Audio Interface Performance important for VST performance?
Can somebody confirm me if they also experience a massive increase of omnisphere 2 real time computing consumption in comparison to the version 1 of omnisphere?
With version 1 of the vst, i could run about 10 instances without any problem on my i7 2600k cpu. With version 2 i get 100% load on ableton with a single instance, with patches like "analogue ..." (new edm patches) , the baseline is there around 60% cpu load, when i start to run the orb from the vst, i easily get 100% load.
It does not happen on all the patches, a lot of the more simpler patches get only 8-10% cpu load, which i would consider normal.
Can someone help me understand the relationship between audio interface and VST performance ? Is there any ? Are the VST's performance only related to CPU processing speed?

Re: Omnisphere 2 hig increased load in ableton with some patches
Wouldn’t be surprised. I think some developers proudly wear the “CPU hog” badge.
Re: Omnisphere 2 hig increased load in ableton with some patches
idk
I have an i5-4690 and I dont have any issues. Sometimes the more convoluted patches take a while to load but I have never hit 100% cpu load.
But I never try to run 10 instances of omnisphere either lol.
I only run 3 or 4 at a time, or Ill use the multi function; once I find something I like I freeze it and move on..
Something sounds seriously wrong if your'e hitting 100% with one patch of analog....

The i5 is like 10% percent faster, and i did not overclock my cpu yet, allthough i have water cooling in place. Can you specifiy your audio interface? Does the audio interface have an impact on VST performance?

...it's a combination of interface and buffersize but mainly the buffersize...the higher you select the buffer the more plugins you're able to use...
macbook pro m1pro, macos monterey, rme multiface via sonnet echo express se I, push 2, faderfox mx12, xone:k2

Oh ya, this is spot on..
I have the presonus audio box i2 and to save cpu I try to run with a buffer rate of 1024 when im simply mouse producing, but if I need to record in real time ill drop it down to
256.
The RME Babyface is on my (rather large) wishlist; )

I am not overclocked eitherSternenlicht wrote: i did not overclock my cpu yet
It has everything to do with your interface and subsequently your buffer rate.
