Behringer's Launchpad - WTF ?!
Behringer's Launchpad - WTF ?!
Gawd this thing is ugly:
Behringer CMD Touch TC64
It's even available at Thomann:
http://www.thomann.de/gb/behringer_cmd_touch_tc64.htm
I just came across it by pure coincidence, had never heard anything about it but it seems to be around since a while ?
Anyone tried it ?
It even has a "Launchpad emulation" mode

WTF, indeed!
Re: Behringer's Launchpad - WTF ?!
Nice!
I like the way that the dimensions are WDH: 25 x 240 x 240 mm
So that's in comparison to a launchpadmini WDH: 20 x 240 x 240 mm
So, it's a slightly overweight ugly impostor of the mini, but I save a grand total of £15 to get this wonky brute?
Well, sign me up!

Aren't Behringer and Novation owned by the same company now anyway?

MMmm not AFAIK, Behringer wons other companies, Inmusic owns Numark, Akai, M-audio, and Alesis. Novation seems to be on its own with focusrite.

Is this bitwig pad?
Re: Behringer's Launchpad - WTF ?!
They made the side and top buttons oval, though, so they're pretty much immune to lawsuits.

Re: Behringer's Launchpad - WTF ?!
meh
The Launchpad exists for a long time now, and as a Live controller it has an extremely obvious design (64 pads in an 8X8 grid).
I have no issue with someone "stealing" that design.
If anything the knock off should be cheaper. Maybe 50€.
I would possibly get a few of them then.
I think Midi controllers like this should be way cheaper. It's just a button matrix with a few LEDs. I doubt parts in a decent production run come out at above 10-15€.
The relevant question should be, if all the scripts for the Launchpad also work on the Behringer one.
Without them it would be a bit pointless.

I have a similar outlook, but mostly that they have the opportunity to make the midi communication more straightforward and simple. I wonder if there are some advantages the way Novation did it or if they just had to stick with what they already had for other reasons.

Re: Behringer's Launchpad - WTF ?!
I think I would prefer if either Novation or Behringer or whoever start building on the non-velocity sensitive, LED lit button matrix.
Let's stop fooling anyone that the Launchpad should be used for finger drumming without velocity sensitivity. It's good for launching clips and step -sequencing.
So make the individual pads smaller, but give me more of them. A lot more!
Where are the 8x16 and 16x16 grid matrixes in a comparably small package? That's what I would like to know.
