Winamp output direct into Ableton channel... Possible?

Post by SuperflysiNZ » Thu Sep 01, 2005 9:44 am

Is there a way to route the output from winamp into a channel in Ableton without having to physically output audio on one soundcard and input it on my firewire audiophile?

I have found one solution that crates an emulated output which you force winamp to use, and you select that as your input for Ableton, but it's not asio, and you can choose multiple outputs.....

Just curious, but why would you want to do this in the first place?

That's the emulator I have tried, you can't have the vac on AND have my 6 firewire cards outputs working. Basically Iwant to run more then one instance of winamp and output them to different sets of outputs (to parts of a building) and have remote midi controlers in each place which are linked to the volume controls in live.

Wrap all of the outputs in Asio4all driver?

I have tried the VST-Winamp Bridge, it works for control, but there are better solutions for midi control for winamp like Wa_Midi by oXo which allows you to map any control surface to winamps play, stop, volume etc. I need to be able to control the volume of winamp in a post fasion, as it is possible that all the zones have the same music, but one zone might want a bit more volume and not effect the others. I think I will be stuck with using my system board audio for winamp output, looping back into live.

Elektrovert:
I planning on having up to three different sources of audio routed to different pairs of outputs for the different sound zones. All controlable via midi from any one of the midi controlers in their respecitve sound zones. Basic functions will be mapped to BCN44 Behringer controlers, like volume of source 1 (winamp), and buttons linked to winamps play, pause, next, and shuffle features.

In one of the zones they have a cd player, it's rca leads run 20 meters back to the Live computer, they control the volume using their local midi controler, or chose to have the house mp3 player. The only drawback at the moment is on startup winamp will default to a single device controling it, ultimately I would like to have more then one instance of winamp being controlled by multiple control surfaces via live.
