Music Blogs
Hey just wondering what music blogs do you visit?
I don't mean music production and/or gear blogs.
What I mean is blogs that post and discuss releases (and take in submissions from musicians) and have a good and engaged following.

Re: Music Blogs
Are there any out there? I was looking a couple years back but I didn't really find anything that seemed worth the trouble. I read a lot of subjective opinions listed as nearly a biblical injunctions to 'do it this way' or you're toast. I tend to just go to vendors websites for technical issues/questions.TomViolenz wrote:Hey just wondering what music blogs do you visit?
I'd really like to find a site filled with erudite musicians who are thought provoking without being pompous.

Re: Music Blogs
Here's a link I saved a while back.
http://cymatics.fm/2015/08/03/how-to-ge ... d-youtube/
I've not followed through on this, but if it works I'll take the credit. If it doesn't work then blame that guy.
Seriously though, the logical strategy he outlines may not guarantee you a billion downloads but its a good method for connecting to blogs.

Re: Music Blogs
Thanks for the links
mmorgan: this is about finding a place to get my music heard not production tips.
Angstrom: good tips and the link to Hypem seems like a great starting place.
Obtuse Moose: beautiful looking blogs (I noticed because I'm in the process of making my own website and they gave me some good inspiration)
A strangely isolated place is mostly ambient though, right?!
And on headphone commute I didn't find the mention that they ask for submissions.
What's interesting is that they should really work on their SEO. Searching for "electronic music blog" yesterday did not make them show up and I went to about result 150. Wouldn't be so strange if the results had been an avalance of other music blogs. But the only ones on the first page had been inactive for 3 years or were flooded with Chinese spam.
Anyways keep 'em comming

You should give the Ableton Forums a tryI'd really like to find a site filled with erudite musicians who are thought provoking without being pompous.

Yes I'd like to but I don't consider myself erudite and I've been told I'm a pompous ass as well.TomViolenz wrote:You should give the Ableton Forums a tryI'd really like to find a site filled with erudite musicians who are thought provoking without being pompous.

Bump, because some might have missed the thread, as it was posted over the week-end.
I also add the wish for suggestions of your favorite youtube channels that specialize in publishing new music by small artists, as was helpfully suggested in the link Angstrom gave.

Have you heard of Awesome Tapes from Africa?
Pretty cool, if sometimes of quite bad (audio) quality.

Found many a gem on there. Lots of trash too of course, and annoying country limitations if you are not in Benelux (which i am not), but gets updated quite frequently. I listen through the stuff at least once a month (mostly at work when i'm bored )
Edit: just noticed that my post doesnt match some of the requirements like being open for contribution, but maybe still worth a try

This x1000, but only if you're into strange music (like me and ObtuseMoose haha).ObtuseMoose wrote:I like Ryan Griffin's "A Strangely Isolated Place" (a.k.a ASIP)

But I think Resident Advisor is also the #1 in discussing underground dance music/ambient/weird music.
