Primus

Post by beats me » Mon Feb 01, 2016 9:07 pm

Totally forgot about them. Now I’m remembering them again. What a great departure from electronica.

I’m kind of a Primus snob in that I remember them opening or middling for touring metal bands at the local clubs. Even the scariest hardcore metal head loved Primus. Its like the only non-metal band they would give a pass to while claiming to have eclectic music taste as a result. And of course I stopped paying attention to them once they started headlining festivals and the average high schooler knew who Primus is.

But happy to be rediscovering them again. :)

the first time I ever heard Primus was after I snuck into a girl's window in hi school and was watching 120 minutes on MTV when the claymation video to Jerry Was a Race Car Driver came on. I was 8O

I remember being at the shows and the crowd chanting “Primus sucks!” I think my favorite album is Suck On This because it’s their first and live. I even got it on vinyl, not because vinyl was a thing, but because back then your options were vinyl or cassette. I knew I would wear the cassette out. Also Primus is one of those bands that sounds better live than the studio recordings.

Subscribe to Apple Music and you can put their whole damn catalog on your iTunes and idevices for free. :) Just not the iPod Classic which kicked off the whole digital music revolution, but whatever. :x

Perhaps you should expat it up and move to China where your son would already be part of the labor force building my next iPhone. Or move to Africa where he would be mining minerals that also go into my iPhone and is also 100% Apple's fault. Point being, Apple would be providing you with the means to pay for Apple Music so you could have the entire Primus catalog in your pocket while expanding your multinational dating resume and your son learns the value of an honest day's work for an honest 18th century pay. His monthly paycheck would just cover an Apple Music subscription but that's all we're trying to solve here.

Hope that helps.

A lot of my early bass chops came from learning Claypool parts in high school.

I don't really play stuff like that anymore (mostly because nobody in this town does). I had terrible technique back then but I took more chances.
