Bengal Synth extreme CPU usage

Post by mitkreis » Sat Aug 20, 2016 6:29 pm

Hi,

I'm runing 9.6.2 and the newest version of M4L on Windows 10.
Ableton always runs fine without any issues but the Bengal synth from Max for cats is
causing many issues.

Most times when im starting it my pc freezes for 3 up to 5min before it starts.
Then my cpu usage rises from 2 to 50% without playing any note.
When playing a simple note im easily at 100%, playing two notes at a time and I hit 200%.
This cant be normal. I dont have an high end pc (8gb Ram - Intel 2630) but not even diva or
other plugins come even close to this.

I also updatet JRE to the newest version.

Is anyone else having this bad performance?

Thanks in advance!
Chris

Hi Chris,

I got your reports and we're looking into it. I've seen this once before, also on a win10 machine...
Seems that there's something on some win10 machines causing the trouble.
We're investigating.

best,
Christian

My cpu usage has been fine with Bengal, but I often have trouble with having more than 2 instances of Bengal open before live crashes. In a brand new project, I was able to get to 5 separate Bengal devices open before live crashed.

While im learning this synth I like to make songs only using bengal. So with percussion, effects, and all of the other aspects of music, its virtually impossible to do this at the moment.

I'm also using the latest versions of max and live on windows 10.

Win10 seems to have the most issues. I recommend to send your log/crashlog to the ableton support.
We're working on a Bengal update with improved loading and cpu.

Best,
Christian

Any ETA on that update? or is that down the road.
Right now it's useless to me ie: haven't been able to use.

Problem is that i have 2-3 of these ominous Win10 cases yet no Win10 system where it can be reproduced.
This makes it really difficult to debug. We're still on it.
The next bugfix addresses loading times (as good as possible) and smaller issues but not specifically this Win10 issue.

Very interesting, as the developer of Oscillot I can see many good things will come to Bengal in the future.
