ok thanks - yes i know there are reviews there sorry maybe i need to be more specific as i cannot find any reviews on there relating specifically to ableton and plug ins

has anyone on the forum used such an app that can give me some personal feedback on how it operates for things like ableton's second mixer view and for using plug ins on the second monitor ?

thanks

I'm using duet display in various configurations and it's working well. At the moment, I mostly use it with my iPhone to display a max for live patch I'm using for my live gigs.
The only thing that has been bothering me sometimes is that some apps or services on the Mac can prevent it to work. For example, I discovered that I had to shut down the touchable server before launching duet display and relaunch it after the iPad/iPhone has been enabled as a second screen.

The cool thing with duet display is that you can choose the resolution displayed on your iPad, so with a retina screen you have a lot of pixels !

So would you be able to run session view on the Mac and arranger on the iPad for example?

You could have each appear on different screens since Ableton updated Live to have a dual screen option.

But in general the screen of an iPad is very small and the iPad isn't so great for high levels of detail. So something like the arrangement view, or even the session view probably wouldn't be so hot on it, even if you were still generally using the mouse pointer.

in the end i will probably use it most for keeping plug ins out of the way of the main gui

Yeah, for plug ins it shouldn't be too bad. I wish there were more possibilities for such capable devices :)
