Why is there no rewind and fast-forward in Live?
Why is there no rewind and fast-forward in Live?
This is driving me crazy, why is there no rewind and fast-forward in Live?... i always use these buttons in other DAWs and i'm completely lost without them, very frustrating, will these ever come to Live?... a major major oversight imo.

I don't know why but the Live way is to use locators on the time line of Arrangement and move between these with automation. There's the clip scrub function, but this only work in Session view per clip AFAIK.buzzlegs wrote:This is driving me crazy, why is there no rewind and fast-forward in Live?... i always use these buttons in other DAWs and i'm completely lost without them, very frustrating, will these ever come to Live?... a major major oversight imo.
You're not alone: Potential Development: Scrubbing through arrangement view. You can make suggestions or vote for existing ones at Ableton at Centercode.

Out of curiosity, why can you not just skip around where you need with a mouse?
Not being facetious, just curious what the real benefits of this are?

because i'm using the mouse to create the notes.change velocities etc., it's just the way i work when writing notes, put notes in,move them around, keep pressing rewind for a second to hear what the notes etc sound like, Live is a major pain in the ass when doing this as you have to keep moving the mouse to the top of the screen to bring the cursor back a bit to hear your changes.

But those bar numbers do not appear mappable in the GUI when you press the MIDI Map Mode Switchcarrieres wrote:yes, on my novation remote 37 SLbuzzlegs wrote:there's keyboard buttons for rewind and fast forward?carrieres wrote:i use my keyboard buttons for this :)

Same on my Akai keyboard - those have fast forward/rewind buttons that seem to work, too.
Not sure about cc numbers, mate - I know that doesn't help you
Looking at the Ableton manual, it's certainly not in there...

Re: Why is there no rewind and fast-forward in Live?
I think the buttons on any controller that either provides a Live template or supports Mackie protocol should work. My Yamaha Motif ES and XF workstations use Mackie protocol when used as a control surface, and the FF and REW buttons do work.
Mackie protocol actually sends MIDI notes, not CCs! G6 sent on MIDI channel 1 is Rewind, G#6 sent on MIDI channel 1 is FF.
The list showing how notes map to functions in Live can be found here.

Gee, thanks for those! Very interesting indeed. I use Mackie Protocol with my Alphatrack, but all this is hidden from the user with it I think.doghouse wrote:Mackie Control Protocol Software Mappings.

Re: Why is there no rewind and fast-forward in Live?
Does anybody know the actual thinking behind there not being fast-forward/rewind buttons?... i can't think of a single reason why there wouldn't be, seems completely idiotic to me and so counter-intuitive when working with digital audio.

do your alphatrack transport buttons work ?Stromkraft wrote:I use Mackie Protocol with my Alphatrack, but all this is hidden from the user with it I think.
