I have been using both Multiband Compression and EQ8 to build Audio Effect Racks that split incoming audio into 3 bands, with controls for the crossover points. It's a convenient way to put the lows in mono, and control the stereo spread of the mids and highs.
Both Multiband Compression and EQ8 color the sound noticeably at the crossover frequencies. Additionally, EQ8 isn't a total brickwall. I recently got FabFilter Pro-Q 2, which doesn't have any of these issues, and re-built my multi-band mono/stereo device using Pro-Q.
Only downside is that the Macro knobs for the crossover points just show a generic 0-127 value instead of Hz. Any way to get the Macro knobs to show the actual Hz value of the crossover points I've set in Pro-Q? It's not a deal-breaker by any means, as I can fine-tune the Macro knob settings with the chain "opened up" to show the values from Pro-Q, and I have saved the Audio Effect Rack with my typical crossover points.
