Mixing with a Novation LaunchCtrl XL automation?

I am thinking to maybe buy a usb midi mixer like an A&H Xone K2 or Novation Launch Control XL for use with mixing tracks within Live.
The question I have is if I make a mixdown using recording automation and the track starts with say full level and I fade this track to 0 level, by the end of the song, how does one setup the hardware again so the levels on the usb mixer are the same as in Live's mixer as they went to 0 and since there's no motorised faders to remember the start of the song where the levels are higher. I'm always curious how one does another mixdown if the levels have been all changed around on the usb mixer since the previous mixdown.
Perhaps to take a photo or write the levels down?
