about moving to XP64...
about moving to XP64...
i'm wondering about moving to XP-64
the first reason is that i want to do a clean install of my system. so i'll do it, whether in 32 bit or 64.
now has anybody done it? did it improve the performance of your system?
did you have troubles with any driver?
i'm currently on XP-Home edition. i'm quite confused if i'm eligible for the XP64 trial version. i've downloaded it, it says i can try it for 120 days. what will happen after this period?
i don't even have the installation disk for XP-Home (32 bit), as it was already installed on my laptop when i bought it. i'm afraid i won't have anymore OS available when the period ends.
well, that's many questions, i'm really wondering if it's a good move.
any contribution/advice welcome!

as far as i can tell unless you have a 64bit chip and 64bit software it shouldn't make your machine run any faster at all. i haven't used it though, thats only what i've read, so i'm steering well clear for now in case it turns out to be buggy/worse than 32 bit.
seems too risky to me, but good luck and all that if you do try it - i'd be really interested to hear what its like.

i would buy the newer edition of Home XP and upgrade to 64 after its been out on the market longer.
and im not sure that the DAWs out there and other software programs eg. Live would even run on a 64 bit cpu and OS. its programming language is completely different.
dont do it

LOGIC PRO 7.2 w/ G4 1.67 1.5G RAM . Mac OSX 10.4.8, LIVE 6.0, Virus TI Keyboard, Korg EMX1, AXIOM 25 and Keystation Pro 88 midi controllers, Midisport 2x2 midi interface, UltraLite audio interface and 1 Rode NT3 mic "check, check".
well, i changed my mind (partly because or your feedback, thanks), and i'll stay on XP32.
but i'm sure some ppl here have upgraded and managed to have Live working on a 64bit edition (i think adamjay did it).
i'm even not sure i'll do a clean re-install, my system performs ok.
it's just that i had a few glitches during a gig last friday, but i guess it was because of the heat/moisture in the club and the fact that my set is prob too heavy.
anyway, thanks for your answers.

The most important thing about running XP x64 edition is that you have 64 bit drivers for all of the gear in your computer.
So, that means audio driver, video drivers, etc.... all gotta be 64 bit.
Not everyone has 64 bit drivers yet.... so this should make your decision a little easier.
I would say don't do it yet.... especially with Vista coming up next year. I would say wait.
