Complete novice wants to record folk music

I have just bought a Focusrite Scarlett 6i6 which comes with Ableton Live 9 bundled software. I want to record fiddle, melodeon, electric guitar, bass & vocals, but no more than 2 at a time. I would like to be able to overdub. I can record stuff onto Ableton, but I can't figure out how to have a previously recorded track coming through headphones & play another track to overdub. I'm not great with jargon either, don't understand most of it. Any help would be appreciated.

IMO Ableton Live is probably not the best for recording and editing live instruments and vocals. Ableton Live is more focused on loop based, MIDI, sampling and groove production side of things.

You'd be better off grabbing yourself a copy of 'Reaper' from http://www.reaper.fm/download.php
Reaper has much better audio editing and track comping features for easily compiling tracks out of multiple live takes (what you want for live instruments and vocals).
Trial version goes for 60 days ... if you want to buy, it's US$60
Reaper is the best value audio recording software out there.

Also recommended: PreSonus 'Studio One 3' ... but it costs more

Live will work just fine for recording folk music. I use to record all kinds of acoustic instruments.
