How to set the probability of notes being triggered?

Post by Tweaking Knobs » Sat Dec 03, 2016 3:13 pm

lets say i have a 16x16 beat with hi hats so all notes are placed..

Imagine the x's are hihats:

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
0...0...0...0...

How can i add a midi fx, that only plays certain notes randomly? so that i could say there is only a 50% of probability for the notes to be played?

Any ideas? i tried with velocity but it was playing notes with different volumes.. i want it to be either played or not played.

thx

it is possible to do it with velocity devices, as long as you dont wish to keep the original velocities intact.
You must set the outcome velocity in the final midi velocity device.

This tutorial covers probability branching in depth. The first part is all you need.

Instance(s) of Random MIDI Effect racked into chain(s) in a MIDI Effect Rack, with key zone(s) to filter what gets randomized.

In short, MIDI Effect Rack.
