Time for a new Laptop

Post by mrruby » Wed Feb 22, 2017 8:16 pm

Hiya Loooong time no post. I know Ableton users are Laptop supergeeks.
So staying with a PC, my question is-are there any drawback in using a monster gaming lappy?
I realize that a lot of a gaming laptop is about Video, But is there any reason (besides noise)
that I should avoid these beasts...cheers!!

Video card can increase the heat. But that can mostly be circumvented. Just something to keep in mind, since heat is a factor in performance of the main CPU. (I only understand this in the most simplistic terms so, I could be off a little)

Get a laptop made for music making. They're out there.

The xps 13 has a 'U' processor. I'm not a fan of those. For portability it should be nice, but performance-wise it leaves a little yet to be desired.

Schenker W507 is very good. I bought that now because my Macbook pro from 2011 is dying, and I don't want to buy Apple any more.
You can customize a lot, depends on the money you want to spend.
