I can't tell if it's an LFO or if the notes are just repeated individually. But I've tried and it doesn't sound quite right, and definitely doesn't have enough power behind it. This sound is usually in the background of a track, giving it a calm feeling (to me at least).
Example: https://soundcloud.com/oshi/fly
Same thing is applied here:

(it seems it helps when the synths are layered to do the same).

I didn't listen, but maybe check out side-chaining where you duck the bass for the kick. You could of course use an LFO instead or some other trigger.massivewolf wrote:I can't tell if it's an LFO or if the notes are just repeated individually. I'll try that out. Thank you! Also I'm using operator, so I assume I'd just tweak it's attack and decay times??.antic604 wrote:To me both of those examples sound like they're done with repeating MIDI notes and the 'pulsation' is achieved via filter cut-off envelope that quickly rises (attack) and then falls (decay), which I think would provide more precise control over the contour of the 'pulse' than LFO in this particular case. Also, it seems especially in the 2nd track, there's some distortion on top of it, which adds character to the sound.massivewolf wrote:I can't tell if it's an LFO or if the notes are just repeated individually. Yeah, my guess is 16th notes. There's not much side chain compression on the kick, he's maybe used that on a ghost 16th note audio clip that's muted.
I would guess its more to do with synth programming than actual automation. The bass tends to have the same repeating notion. It's got a little attack, bit of decay and short release if that helps!

So maybe it's ducking something else. It's common practice to have a Side-chain kick that isn't heard, only acting as the SC source. Or it could be any sound. The difference with an LFO or other periodic trigger signal would be the rhythmic control. That control shouldn't be glossed over as it affects heavily how the bass appears.antic604 wrote:It 'ducks' several times (16th notes, I think) between the kicks, so side-chaining against it wouldn't help.Stromkraft wrote:I didn't listen, but maybe check out side-chaining where you duck the bass for the kick. It could be an internal control signal or a repeating envelope affecting the amplitude. No, haven't listened. No time.weesoul wrote:Yeah, my guess is 16th notes. There's not much side chain compression on the kick, he's maybe used that on a ghost 16th note audio clip that's muted.
