I have made a ton of sample chains that contain 128 samples on a single drum rack pad that you select using chain selector. Especially with warping now being built into simpler, this has been great for having 128 shaker loops on a pad with 8 adjustable parameters, 128 vinyl drum breaks, etc.
The only bummer is that when i select a new sample using the chain selector, the sample visible in live isn't the same sample that plays. I have to slowly scroll through the whole list of 128 sounds while hitting the pad and look for the sound with a bouncing meter next to it.
Does anyone know of a way to get live to display the active sound?
I'm guessing this might not exist because the concept of chains allows multiple sounds to overlap in a chain, which would make it impossible for Live to display "the" sound being triggered. The only way we get 128 discrete selectable sounds is by having live "distribute ranges equally". Given this limitation of sounds potentially overlapping though, it would be nice if Live would at least jump to, say, the first of the sounds in the list that are being triggered.
128 sample racks: way to move focus to active sound?
Re: 128 sample racks: way to move focus to active sound?
Isn't that what the little arrow above the chain list in the rack is for. Have you tried turning it on?
I don't know how it deals with overlapping chains, but why would you want more than one chain playing a sample at the same time anyway?
