Using a Boss loop staion in Ableton ?

Post by smoulder » Tue Oct 03, 2017 9:35 pm

Hi all, I've just bought a Boss RC-30 loop station, and would like to know if it's possible to get it to work in Ableton 9. I'd like to use the plug in's I have within Ableton and effects, is this possible ?
I've looked through YouTube and Google but, without a definitive solution..... Cheers fella's.

Well anything is possible.

How will you be planning on using this looper effect? will you be sending audio out of live, looping it and then wanting to send it back into Live and through effects? Or will you have an external device (such as a synth) connected into the looper then sent into Live?

Either way if you want this in "real-time" and to use some effects you will need to understand there is going to be some delay in Live which may make your objective a bit difficult.

I was hoping I could send it out of live, loop it with the Boss RC-30 then send it back into live through an old Toneport KB37 keyboard controller ??
Do you think that could work ?

You will have to deal with some delay in the audio signal, that will be the only thing. You can compensate for that but that could affect things if you want to also live play a MIDI keyboard.

It would be tricky if you wish to sample the master output through your pedal then feed that back into Live to use some effects as you don't want a feedback loop. I'm thinking you really need a second set of audio outputs to send a signal out to the looper then back in on another channel which goes to the master.

Might have to leave this to someone that has some experience using something like this.

I have a Focusrite I could use for the sending out and back into live with......do you think this would better equipped to do it.....there's no latency at all with the Focusrite.

There will always be latency when you send audio into a DAW, through effects and back out again. The laws of physics govern that. How much delay will depend on buffers, the effects used and the capability of the drivers.

Can't really answer if it will work. I normally setup things and test them out to find that answer.
