looking for a master bus solution

Post by [art] » Wed Nov 08, 2017 7:36 am

sometimes when i'm using live i can't help but feel i want 'global' control over certain settings.

send fx are one thing... but do you wish certain controls were available in the channel strip that accessed your various parameters in your device chain?

maybe i'm missing something...

how can i access various parameters from a range of tracks at the global level? without having to dive into a bunch of different tracks

of course, each track can have its own macros

but is there some way to have 8 controls across say, 8 tracks?

sometimes, I really feel like Ableton honors the traditional mixing console channel strip far too much. there's a real possibility to shake things up there... to have say, a global macro at the top of the channel that you can assign to a particular parameter...

i guess i am thinking something akin to Elektron's performance page on the Analog Four.

You can map something to any of your tracks to any one knob, and so on for the 8 knobs.

is there a 'performance page' for Ableton Live or have i just been in the Elektron world for too long...

The only way I know of is to use some MFL devices that can be tied to controls on a number of tracks. Watch out for aged ones that have issues, because of deprecated objects (forgot which ones). I made a post about this before. I'll see if I can dig it up.

Its crazy once you get back into Ableton that it really does operate in a certain paradigm.

Sure, it has Push and heaps of great instruments and effects

But then theres these funny little situations

My 2c:

Track Macro’s should apoear in the Channel strip, like Sends. They could be hidden like everything else (io, sends, levels etc)

And then the Master Track - give it some power. Let it have a master macro section that can be tied to whatever you want. So if you’re on the master page, you’ve got your 8 fave parameters for any given Live set. And hey, why not go crazy elektron style and let multuple parameters be tied to the same macro

It sucks having to go into tracks all the time to see what controls are what

the best thing a new version of Live can ever do is seeing what its faults are, seeing where the weaknesses are, and busting open those problem corridors.

ableton should blow everyone away and not be afraid to improve their own paradigm. yes, font changes and new skin colors are great, as are welcome arrangement changes, but there is much that could be done. they're in a position to innovate the music audio workstation like no other. i dont know why they dont grab it by the neck and throw it half way to jupiter

I think you can do that with Macrobat which is included in the free ClyphX remote script.
Check out the NK RECEIVER rack in the Macrobat manual.

If you own M4L then HoneyMapper, Multimapper and Sixteen Macros should be the devices to check out.

AFAIK, Sixteen Macros has deprecated objects that affects the automation override button.

I don't know the reason, but it was in fact discontinued and replaced by HoneyMapper.
So forget about Sixteen Macros.

Actually I just tried it and didn't like the way it has to be set up..
But then I found out that everything you should need is in the free M4L Essentials pack:

MAP8 and MultiMap
