I must add that Logic is A LOT faster than Live and I can use smaller buffer settings.
I hope Ableton will introduce multithreading soon... any news on this?

not bad at all...
re:altivec... kinda useless to implement it now since Apple is going Intel. but that means Live will be faster, and Ableton will then be able to focus furthermore on SSE optimization for both Mac and Win platforms, making Live eeeeven faster.
also its a mixed blessing that Ableton never went Altivec. It will probably be amongst the very first DAWs to be MacIntel compatible, since they won't have to cherry pick out any Altivec optimizations in order to make the code compatible with the new architecture.

ah well, i'll just have to wait then.
Myspace sucks? yeah, the teenage sector/web, but as far as networking musician-wise, it's great. and looking at pictures of your friends trying to look cool is great.
I bought Praveen's new album simply because of his Myspace page. I couldn't get enough of his music.

1) Ableton Live CPU Meter % ------------------------------ 35% peak, 34% avg
2) Laptop/Desktop? Make/Model ------------------------- Desktop Dell 8400
3) Operating System --------------------------------------- Win XP Home SP2
4) CPU Make Model and Speed --------------------------- P4 3.0G Prescott 630
5) Amount of Ram / Speed of Ram (if you know) ------- 1.5 G DDR2 PC4200
6) Soundcard (Stock or add on?, usb/firewire/pci ?) ----- On-board
7) Hard Disk Drive Speed (if you know) ------------------ SATA 40Gig 7200 RPM

This is by no means an optimised system...This has been my gaming/internet warrior for quite a few months, just tryin out Live 5 before gettin my Lappy.
Although, I must say...doesnt seem to be too bad for the $500 I paid for it.....

this thread has confused me
i'm getting a new box in the new year so what should i do it seems the spec doesn't have as much to do with results as the make of the machine.crazy

Eh? I think the CPU model and clock frequency explains at least 90% of the performance test results. Computer maker seems to be a very minor factor.

I am wondering though, how many people know how to optimise Windows for audio, i.e. shutting off background processes and setting Windows to run best for programs, etc. this may make a difference, especially as many brand name computers these days have all kind of junk installed that runs at startup. Does the cpu monitor display overall cpu use, or just the power being used by Live?

shut off background processes?
you should get better results by setting the processor to backround services.
