Controlling Live with a USB Footwitch

No, there is just the footswitch connected to the USB cable - the "block" you are looking at probably is the footswitch, which is permanently connected to the cable with the USB connector at the other end.....

If you need more precision (stop/start on beat) read the documentation (it may or may not help) ...

Just to be clear, here is the footswitch I ordered:

BTW, there are many other variations from both Delcom (two switches) and others (3+ jacks to connect others), so do a google on "USB footswitch"...

Ah, ok, you posted two links-- the other one had the jacks that plugged into the "block" and the block was also sold separately.

For Windows there is a free keyboard layout configuration program, "Microsoft Keyboard Layout Creator"

The default when you bring it up will disable all keys except the space bar (as I remember), but if disabled you can always enable it). In any case, you can save and load various layouts; for me, bringing the program up disables every thing except the spacebar; exiting the program brings the normal keyboard back. I haven't tested if it lets you choose between two concurrent keyboards yet...

You can then use the keyboard with all keys disabled (except the spacebar) as a footswitch - gluing a riser to the top of the spacebar will make it even better (and there are other ways I can think of as well)..

This means you don't have to remove the other keys from the keyboard, since only the space bar will be active.

Update: Just got my second keyboard in:

It works fine; since I don't have any keys assigned, it worked out of the box without the Microsoft program, as long as the focus was on Ableton. You don't have to be all that precise about aiming, either. If Live isn't the focus, it acts as a normal keyboard. (Of course, one can remove the ksys and refine the device further, but for me it seems fine...)
