Scanning User Library Crashes Live 10

Post by Oneiroi » Thu Jun 14, 2018 6:06 pm

Hi, I'm posting this here to see if anyone else has that problem or if it's only happening to me...

Everytime I try to scan my User Library folder via the Managing Files View in Live 10, Live gets stuck around 94% and then crashes. I did some folder renaming and reorganizing recently and I'd love to fix it quickly. Tried the latest version of Live BETA also and did the same thing. Live 9 seems to work fine though.

Anyone else having that problem?

Thanks!

It's a known bug. No idea when it'll be fixed though.

It happens when a project contains another project.

So the solution is to move the contained project out of the containing project folder?

It's a workaround rather than a solution; but yes.

Well, personally it would never occur to me to save new projects into existing project folders so a very low price to avoid a nasty bug.

I have almost 200,000 samples at just about 50gb in my user library. I thought this was why it was crashing. I’m curious what others user libraries sample count and disk space are.

Looked at all my Project folders and didn't see any secondary project folder in them. Still crashes.

If there is a Live Set file inside a folder that's named, for example, "Ideas", would that folder be considered a Project folder, even if there isn't the word "Project" at the end? Sometimes I save 2-3 tracks with clips in them as ideas for later and Ableton saves that as a Live Set file, but I don't want that file to be with all of my other Live Set filets, I want it to be inside a folder which keeps different musical ideas inside, either as Clip files (.alc) or Set files (.als). Do you think that would crash the scan?

Not sure, but I think yes, 'a Live Set file inside a folder that's named, for example, "Ideas"' would be considered a Project folder.

You could testing yourself, moving those Sets to the "root folder" of the project, or to new folders that are outside a Project.

Live also crashes if it scans vst3.
The software is really starting to show its old code base.
Live just wants to take a nap nowadays.
The Push / Novation Launch Pad / Novation Launch Pad Pro / Novation Launch Key
/ Launch Control XL / Machine MkII / Machine Studio / BeatStep / Livid OhmRGB / Livid Code V2 / Apc 40 MKII

no computers or synths

I just moved the VST3 version of Waves shell (WaveShell1-VST3 10.0_x64.vst3) to my VST folder and re-scanned.

Live just ignored it and completed the scan without crashing.

If there are any folders named "Ableton Project Info" contained within your User Library - delete them, and try to scan the user library again.

Had a similar problem early on in the v10 beta, and another user figured it was related to these "Ableton Project Info" folders.
