Push 2 "Standalone"

Post by esummers91 » Sat Jul 28, 2018 5:42 am

If I get one of these that is of good enough spec. Given the increased functionality of the Push 2 instrument.
In theory I can use this and not have to have a laptop . I could use this and get a "standalone" vibe I know its not completely standalone.
but how do you think this would work, are people already doing this ? also will this thing be able to power my Push 2.

But that is essentially a laptop, just without the keyboard and actual useful specs.

I think you would be wasting your time there.

I’d love it if Push 3 had a real midi out port on the back. After so many years of using it as my main “keyboard” in the studio, I’m so used to it that it’s all I use even with my hardware. Would be great to leave the computer out of the equation for simple keyboard roles with other gear and modules :)

I guess you know the Novation Launchpad Pro can do that (MIDI out to external gear + keyboard & scales layout + drum layout) ?

I wouldn't bother with that little tv screen. Just run a mac Mini if you want to emulate a standalone unit & see how the workflow goes without the ability to glance at the laptop. I'd actually be curious to hear your findings!

I'm more into building the Push and a 10+ core desktop into a rack with a detachable display stand (a 29" won't fit into a 19" rack just like that).

If you want a standalone now there is the MPC Live, that is maturing nicely. It's no Live nor is it a Push, both being hints on why this haven't been built.
