Using sends & Returns
Using sends & Returns
(See Live10 manual: 1.2.8 )
When I was using the "Intro" version of Live I didn't have this problem;
I only had two sends, and they were already in use! lol! Now I have
Live10 Std., and have unlimited sends / returns!!!
SO I have one thing I really want to do BADLY which is this;
I've learned to "Map" the drum kit and get the individual "tracks" for
each drum sound (16) in the kits... and I want to EQ some (Kick, Snare & Cymbals)
INDIVIDUALLY. I knwo I can do a good job separating the "freq's" with EQ8,
but I want to "carve" the sound out that I want on each "pad" if I am
using that term correctly(?)
I'm still SO NEW!!!
ANyway I need a good tutoorial(s) on using sends and returns GENERALLY,
and if one or more exists, one to teach me how to "chain" individual pads.
btw, I know some of you "tribal elders" are laughing at me right now,
I can hear you! but often when I read the manual I end up more confused
than indoctrinated.
Thanks in advance

Re: Using sends & Returns
One easy way to effect each sound on a drumrack is to drop the effect right on the pad.

Re: Using sends & Returns
If I wanted to EQ a track, I would just place an EQ plugin on that track. I wouldn't use a send/return for this, as you'll have a dry and a wet sound playing together.

Twelve to be exact.G-Pop wrote:Now I have

And the two posters before me are right.
EQ being a filter is a typical insert effect unless you want to 'parallel-eq', mixing dry and wet signal.
And the pads of a drumrack are chains with lots of the bells and whistles of individual tracks (you can even have rack returns).

Re: Using sends & Returns
It's also possible to chain group pads so you can apply the same insert to a group of pads to save loading up so many effects.
Well worth youtubing and spending some time investigating as there is a lot of power and options in the drum rack.

LMAO! That ocurred to me for about 1 second, then I thought;dougdi wrote:One easy way to effect each sound on a drumrack is to drop the effect right on the pad.
"no it can't be that easy and I want to do it right!"
Thanks dougdi!

Yep you're right and there's times I might want to do exactly that though.
This though is not one of them!

Damn! I must have read the Suite stats on that one.chrk wrote:Twelve to be exact...G-Pop wrote:Now I have

Well, twelve is more than enough for now, since I still don't really
understand exactly WHY (or how) to use them anyway, except now (Mix wet/dry)
I do know that (why).
Thanks chrk!

Yeah I did think of that (more than 1 kick or "deep" low freq'a sounds,
snares and claps, ALL cymbals... that would save processor overhead.
My machine has a LOT of overhead resources "headroom" for RAM and
processor, so that's never been an issue as sloppy as I'm sure some
of my mixes are about conserving resources. I DO LIKE working as "clean"
as possible though being an "old timer" and being used to "elegant"
programming and flow.
Working on it! Thanks again Jester!

This is one reason I love Live, there can be many ways to achieve your goal. I barely scratch the surface using rack chains but there’s a whole universe full of possibilities!
