Why is my mix quiter

Post by A99 Productions » Sun Nov 04, 2018 2:15 am

I wanna know how to make headroom.

When i Master my Stuff at -13 lufs then it’s always quiter than other tracks at the same -13 lufs
And i Don’t know why. I Highpass and all These things and i cant see why my tracks are lower in volume than others.

Your issue is obviously that you are using your eyes. You should be hearing what is the problem, not seeing. Ears make all the difference. That's what I heard the Pros use to make a mix awesome. Ears, and prob some experience and skill and decent gear and such. Get yourself some of that and see if that helps. But importantly, ears are key.

Professional mastering is a blackart on it's self..... Maybe technical possible, it is better to do it not yourself I guess.....

The fine art of mixing is not mastered by everyone (including myself as I'm intermediate), and the art of mastering comes with even more things.

If you have good mixed tracks, ready to release, why not let someone else who has the skills, workspace and devices do it?

If you have friends that can do it then perhaps get one of them to teach you what they know. The forums won't teach you what you need to know.

I'm gonna emphasize the previous comment on listening to your mix to figure out what the difference of it with the other mixes that sounds louder, but I will share an idea of what the issue could be.

So LUFS is the measured avarage of loudness over samples of time. Mixes can have some radical differences in perceived loudness, solely because of the difference in dynamics.

A general rule is that a heavily compressed track at -13 db LUFS will be perceived less loud than a more dynamic track, because the dynamic track will have a lot more louder peaks.

How are you measuring your LUFS readings?

And did you let the entire song play when you were using the meter, or just a small section of it? You have to play the entire song to get an accurate LUFS reading.
