Please add Node 4 Max (N4M) in Max 4 Live (M4L)

Post by JJupiter » Sun Nov 25, 2018 1:44 pm

Hi Abletons,

Please add NodeJS support (N4M) in your next Max 4 Live (M4L) release.
Can't wait to create stuff with it...

Cheers!

It's already in it.

And it's already been asked! (and answered)

That answer states that Node 4 Max is part of Max 8, NOT Max 4 Live.
My question is when N4M will be part of M4L.

Currently it is not in it.

When it's released. There is no one here who will be able to answer that question.

Cheers

Forgive me if it's irrelevant (I don't even get what nodes really is) but from Max 8.0.2 release notes :

node.script : amxd~ support
MacBook Pro 13" Retina i7 2.8 GHz OS 10.13, L10.0.1, M4L.
MacStudio M1Max 32Go OS 12.3.1

This is all very confusing indeed, as the general assumption is "Max is part of Live now".

But this sould make things more clear:

Max 4 Live v8.0.0 IS NOT the same as Max v8.0.0.
node.script IS part of Max v8.0.0
node.script IS NOT part of Max 4 Live v8.0.0

So my original request still stands:
Please add NodeJS support (N4M) in your next Max 4 Live (M4L) release.
Can't wait to create stuff with it...
Cheers!

The answer was in the link in the second post.

For some reason Ableton haven’t included the latest version of Max 8 bundled into the Live 10 app. Downloading the standalone version of Max and choosing it as the Max editor in Live’s preferences is the solution.

Why is everybody insisting that my question is answered, I do not understand...

Even so while I'm very specific and all.

The answer "It is NOT IN M4L (if wich I'm aware), please download the full product separatly", does not answer my request to have the option IN M4L.

But I'll rest my case, as, like S4racen suggests: "There is no one here who will be able to answer that question.", even more so when THAT question seems to be misunderstood.

I totally understand the question, so for clarity if anyone else is following the post.

M4L is not Max... Despite version numbers appearing similar they are not currently in sync.

If you have full version of Max you can point to that version with the latest version of Live 10 and get the Node elements.

If you don't have the full version of Max you will need to wait for a future version of M4L to be released, something for which there is no release date that anyone could share in this forum.

Cheers

Your own misunderstanding in this matter is understandable, as Ableton and Cycling '74 have never made it easy to understand.

Long story short, the entity we call "Max For Live" is really just a licensing option. It's not a separate piece of software, per se.

It used to be even more complicated when they didn't package the entire Max app inside the Live app like they do with Live 10.

So the real question should be "Why isn't Ableton packaging the latest version of Max 8 inside of Live 10 for Max For Live Users?"
