are Ableton source files compatible across MacOS and PC?

My son spends 50% of his time at his mom's house that has a Mac, and 50% at my house that has a PC.

if I install Ableton (lite) on both computers, would my son be able to put the source files on a thumb drive and travel back and forth between houses and work on both computers?

As long as he's only using the built in instruments and effects and they are the same Live version it should work fine. He should do a "Collect All And Save" File operation before copying the projects from one computer to the next just to be safe.
