[10.0.5] Guitar Rig 5 Pro crashing Ableton on launch

Post by EnjoyRC » Mon Oct 15, 2018 12:18 pm

When I say "Guitar Rig 5 Pro crashing Ableton on launch", I mean when Ableton is starting up and scanning VSTs. Not even loading a set yet.
I removed all VSTs and meticulously added them in one by one until I found the culprit.

Guitar Rig 5 Pro has been working perfectly for months. Recently, due to the 10.0.4 automatic upgrade, my system decided scan the VST folder. Then all these problems started.

Any ideas? Anyone else experiencing this on a Mac?

I just re-installed everything on my laptop as I installed the same products on my new desktop. The Mini desktop runs fine, but the laptop keeps doing the same thing (crashing on scan) bc of Guitar Rig.vst, as you describe.

I've deleted preferences, run the app in standalone, re-installed the VSt, re-scanned GR5's library in plugin mode, etc.

I'm confused.

I just found this today.. about to try it.

Please reset the Guitar Rig 5 database as follows:

1. Delete your user preferences:
- Hold down the alt key on your computer's keyboard & click Go in the Finder menu bar.
Choose the appearing Library entry in the drop-down menu.
- Navigate to Preferences.
- Delete the following file: 'com.native-instruments.Guitar Rig 5.plist'.

2. Reinitialize the Guitar Rig 5 Database:
- make sure that neither Guitar Rig 5 nor any other NI Software is running,
- in the Finder, choose "Go", hold down "alt" to view & open "Library".
- Browse to Application Support > Native Instruments > Guitar Rig 5, then delete the "Database" folder within that folder.
- Restart your computer.

Next time you start Guitar Rig 5 in standalone mode (prior to opening it as a plug-in : very important!), your database should be reset & your issue resolved.

Was it working correctly with previous L10 versions?

I had endless problems with this pack with various versions of Live (9 through to 10), so I have never bothered to reinstall it, and you know what? I don't miss it.
...not having a mid-life crisis....just don't give a fuck about shit i don't give a fuck about anymore.....
