Hi there...
Occasionally a random audio clip (typically vocals) will exhibit some popping and clicking. The pops happen at the same place within the clip each time it's played.
If it's part of a comp'd vocal, the comp track and the original take will both pop in the same places. But it's not the entire track or even the entire clip. just certain parts, typically in long, held notes. The rest of the production (instruments - midi and audio and other vocals) don't have any issues.
Cpu meter barely hits 25%.
The actual wav file does not contain any pops when played outside of ableton. So I know the actual recording is not corrupted. I can delete the clip from the project and then take the uncorrupted wav and drag into the project, sometimes it clears it up and sometimes it doesn't.
Steps I've taken to trouble shoot:
1. adjust gain up and down
2. disable and then removed all plugins on the popping track and the master
3. remove all sends for that track
4. mute and unmute track. disable and enable clip
5. routed output of the track to it group, then directly to master, then directly to external out.
6. ensure no clipping is happening anywhere in the chain.
7. unplug and reset interface
8. restart ableton
9. restart Computer.
10. Adjusted audio buffer up and down to every option.
None of those things have any effect. I'm at a complete loss and extremely frustrated that I have a perfect take that I can't use.... Any help or ideas would be very much appreciated.
Rig:
Windows 7
i5 3500k
16gb Ram
SSD drive for system and ableton
7200 RPM hdd for audio.
Focusrite Scarlett 18i8 USB
Thanks for the help!

Make sure "warp" is not on for the vocal track

See if there is a difference if you avoid using Complex warp modes.
Then see if there is a difference with the HiQ button on or off.
Lastly, with or without these on, try activating the Ram button for just the problem clip.

Disabling warp altogether seems to have eliminated the issue, even though I wasn’t actually warping anything. It’s enabled by default, and I have complex as the default mode. Interesting that just enabling warp actually does something to the audio. I just figured it was passive until audio was actually manipulated via tempo or pitch.
Anyway. I think we’re good for now. Thanks for the help. I was losing my friggin mind.

as you have discovered, the Complex modes are never completely transparent, even when a clip already matches the global tempo...
