REAL time Quantizer - quantize in real time

Post by dragon131313 » Mon Dec 31, 2018 8:20 pm

Hi!

I would like know if there is something like a quantizer for Ableton that can be used live. (for concerts)

I found one but it doesn t work for me. It does a good job quantizing the notes that I play a little "ahead", but with the notes that are a little "later", it will just move them to the next mark. Which means that if I play a note a milisecond later, I will sound on the next mark. If I set 1/8, it will sound on the next quaver.

I attached a picture so you understand.

My question is: is there a quantizer for live performances that you recommend and that don´t have this problem?

It would be ideal that if I play a note a little later, It just leaves that note like that since it belongs to the previous mark, not the following one.

I will really appreciate any recomendation.

Thanks.

You can just use record quantize in Ableton.

I guess you are playing a part while recording then launching the loop?

But doesn't work live. You can recorded and then you have it quantized to play it.
What I want is to play it and hear it quantized at the same time.

Please explain how (on earth) would work a live quantizer that would quantize hits that you play late.
MacBook Pro 13" Retina i7 2.8 GHz OS 10.13, L10.0.1, M4L.
iMac 27" Retina i5 3,2 GHz OS 10.11.3 L10.0.1 M4L.

OP said they want notes that are played a little late to be left as is

I'm not sure about such a device but I bet you could create something that would do this in max for live

Oh I see.
I'll try to code a device that does it, it shouldn't be too difficult. Interesting idea !

You can do this by loading the arp and note length plugs and setting arp rate and note length each to 1/4, 1/8 etc.

edit: probably won't do what you want....
ctrl + left/right = select transient

ctrl + shift + left/right = select between transients

ctrl + space = play selection

This would be nice to test. Not a bad idea at all ! You're sometimes surprised how far you can go with Live's native devices only.

i still don't see how this would work.

you would essentially have a script that says quantize to the right spot, if i don't play in the wrong spot.

maybe at really low bpm...

it sounds pretty straightforward (to my caffeine-starved brain anyway):

the algorithm is: if a note is early or late, delay only if the next quantize point is closer than the previous one...

seems pretty easy to me as well.... Do we have a patching challenge ?

If someone can do it, It´ll be extremely appreciate it.

I found this one online:
http://www.maxforlive.com/library/devic ... ubali-edit

But it has the problem that I mentioned above. When you play a little late, it takes the note to the next quantization mark.
When the note is played a little late, I want the note to stay as it is.

I wish I could do it myself but Im not very familiar with Max for Live and don´t know how long would take me to learn it.

Thank you.

BTW, I cant believe how no company has already invented something like this before.

BTW, if someone wants to check this out

This is the midi controller I would like to have real time quantizer for.
