Surge VST in Live 9.6

Post by Limbertimbre » Thu Feb 25, 2016 6:04 pm

Is anyone out there able to get Vember Audio Surge VST to show up in the list of instruments? I have tried different versions and multiple attempts and I can't get it to show up.

edit: OSX 10.11.3

Unfortunately Surge on Mac is 32-bit only. You could try using a VST bridge, such as jBridge https://jstuff.wordpress.com/jbridgem/ However, that site says 10.11 support is still to be implemented.

There is also an audio unit bridge - 32 Lives http://www.soundradix.com/products/32-lives/

Note: I cannot personally vouch for either approach; for my purposes I decided it wasn't worth pursuing since just about everything I use has a 64-bit version these days.

I don't really use Surge, but I have checked it out in the Live 32bit version. On OS X you can install multiple versions side by side easily by renaming the app. Despite Ableton dissuading from this I have not encountered any issues because of this, that I know of. At minimum I have the current version and the beta installed.

Normally I run the 64bit version of Live at all times.
Make some music!

Hi. Surge has been opensourced by Claes. After steady and voluntary development by various programmers, it now runs 64-bit on macOS (AudioUnit, VST2, VST3) and 64-bit on Windows (VST2,VST3). Work is under way to make it run properly on Linux, and we are a packager away from Windows 32-bit VST2.

The package installers for macOS + Windows 64-bit are available at http://surge-synthesizer.github.io.

No longer, Surge is available for macOS at 64-bit for free.

If you know any developers who would love to add more features to Surge or otherwise make it work better, tell them to check out

The full GitHub repository is at http://github.com/surge-synthesizer/surge

p.s. i use both the 64-bit AudioUnit and the VST2 on Ableton Live 10 with no problems. Just installing Ableton Live 10.1Beta to check out if the Surge VST3 version works nicely, too - as Ableton Live 10 is the first VST3-compatible audio app I have on my computer.
