Magic AB v.s. clever routing

Post by mid_knight » Sat Feb 16, 2019 2:14 pm

Hey Guys

Do any of you find benefit in using Magic AB instead of just routing reference tracks within Live? I keep hearing tremendously good things about Magic AB but I think it might only be if you are using another DAW cuz it seems like you could set up something very similar if not better using Live's routing.

What do y'all think?

Thanks!

Key map the crossfade; set your reference track to "deck" B.
Press your mapped key to switch between your mix and the reference track...

But...but...but... your reference will be processed through the master track's effects.

Here's the "clever routing" that skips this from an ages old post:

Add the reference track to a new channel

Switch the output to Ext. Out instead of Master

Mute the track [Deactivate]

Use the solo button to A/B

This will avoid any processing that you have on the master channel and make it easy to switch

You could also map that solo button to something else so you can adjust things with the mouse while checking the reference track
