It's doing something to the database, scanning, adding, updating... It can sometimes spin for an hour on a really large database. It's nothing to bother about, should go away when it's done whatever it needs to do.

I found that in the Beta for 10.1 I suddenly gained the eternal spinning wheel . I never used to have it but somewhere around beta 18 it started spinning and hs never stopped since.

I've been having the same problem on Windows. After much investigation, I believe that the indexer is actually finishing its work, but for some reason it is not successfully telling the Live GUI to withdraw the spinning wheel.

You’d want to have a look at your activity monitor/task manager to see if any indexing process is active.

That’s what I’ve been doing.

When I launch Live, it starts an indexing process that takes about 20% of the cpu, according to WIndows Task Manager. Eventually the process quiescent, dropping to less than 1% of the cpu. On one of my machines, the sircle sometimes stops spinning when this happens, but usually not. On the other machine, the circle always stops at this point.

This behavior is why I think the problem is communication, not actual indexing.

Could be getting stuck on a corrupt file or long path names it cannot resolve if you have a lot of nested folders.

What is your user library like? Is it well maintained and not massively bloated? Have you added folders (such as project or temp folders) that could have files that constantly change. Also make sure you haven't simply just added C:\ to your browser. SHould only add direct paths to where samples and content are installed.

I have been able to reproduce the problem on a machine with no user-supplied content at all, just Ableton packs.

The problem never occurs on one of my machines and often occurs on the other with identical content.

When the problem is occurring, the index process is consuming essentially no cpu.

The problem never occurred on Live 10.0.6 and is occurring on Live 10.1.

Because of these facts, I think it is highly unlikely that there is anything about my configuration that is causing it.

Mine started spinning in a relatively recent beta and nothing much had changed on my machine, or in my library. It doesn't seem to consume much CPU but it holds onto a bunch of memory.

I'm having the same problem. Is it possible to downgrade back to the latest version of 10.0?

Got the same problem (on windows) with the spinning wheel at places. Started during the beta and didn´t stop since then. 8O

Has someone reported this issue in the Beta test area?
